Where and how is a weapon carried on board the plane?

During the flight the weapon is kept in a special locking metal box in an isolated cargo section of the aircraft.

Please pack your weapon with care and consideration before you travel, satisfying the requirements of security and safety, using a specifically designed bag, case or cover. Weapons should not be loaded. Pack the ammunition in standard boxes stored separately from the weapon. Please note that according to IATA safety regulations, only 5kgs of ammunition can be transported by a passenger.

At the departure airport, your weapon will be inspected by the Airline and the Customs Department in order to assure that your weapon complies with all the requirements and regulations.

I am transporting a weapon. Where and how do i get it after arrival?

After landing, weapons are returned from the special luggage area located behind belt 5 in the luggage collection area. To claim a weapon, you must show documents certifying:

  • your right to possess and carry the weapon;
  • acceptance of the weapon for carriage on the flight;
  • your identity.

Can I transport firearms and/or ammunition?

Yes, you can, if you have a permit to possess and carry the firearm. For each destination please check with our Customer Contact Center on +357 24 00 00 53 for further information. For security reasons passengers may not carry any firearms, gas or weapons of any kind in the passenger cabin.

You must register any weapons and fill in the necessary documents before checking in for the flight. We therefore recommend that you come to the airport no later than two hours before the flight departure. On Cyprus Airways flights the weight of permitted weapons counts towards your free luggage allowance.
