Pets Transportation rules
Pet in cabin
- During the flight, the container (cage) in the aircraft cabin must be stowed under the seat in front of passenger. It is prohibited to place the container (cage) with animal near secondary exits, in aisles, and on baggage racks. The animal shall remain inside of the locked container (cage) throughout its entire duration on board of the aircraft (during the flight, taxiing, boarding/disembarking, etc.).
- We are able to accept only 3 pets in the cabin per flight. Kindly note that only one pet per passenger is allowed.
-One adult passenger may transport no more than one container with animal(s).

Pet in hold
- Animals shall be accepted in the aircraft baggage compartment in containers (cages). The transport container shall be compliant with current IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations.
- One container (cage) may accommodate no more than 2 mature animals, provided that the weight of each does not exceed 14 kg and they are compatible to be kept together. Animals with greater weight shall be transported in individual containers (cages).
- One container (cage) may accommodate no more than 3 animals of the same species, which are not older than 6 months of age.
- A maximum of 3 containers (cages) with non-antagonistic pets may be transported as checked-in items at a time.A stroller without a child under 11 years old is transported in accordance with general terms and conditions.
Common rules and special conditions
Only animals which appear to be in good health and condition and fit to travel to the final destination will be accepted for carriage by Cyprus Airways. The shipper is required to declare when animals are pregnant, or have given birth in the last 48 hours. Mammals which are declared to be pregnant will not be accepted unless accompanied by a veterinary certificate certifying that the animal is fit to travel and there is no risk of birth occurring during the journey.

Special conditions
1.1. The following dogs of so called fighting breeds shall be prohibited from importation/transit to Israel:
  • American Pit Bull Terrier;
  • American Staffordshire Terrier;
  • Bull Terrier;
  • Brazilian Mastiff (Brazilian Fila, Fila Brasileiro);
  • Staffordshire Bull Terrier (English Staff);
  • Tosa Inu (Tosa Ken, Japanese Mastiff); Rottweiler;
  • Argentinean dog.

1.2. The following dogs of so called fighting breeds shall be prohibited from importation / transit to Cyprus:
  • American Pit Bull/Pit Bull Terrier
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Argentinian Mastiff/Dogo Argentino
  • Brazilian Mastiff/Fila Brasileiro
1.3. Any cross-breeds of the above-mentioned breeds with any other breeds shall also be prohibited. This prohibition shall apply to importation of dogs both in the aircraft cabin and in the baggage compartment.

1.4. On flights to/from Ireland and United Kingdom, reservation for transportation of animals both in the aircraft cabin and in the baggage compartment shall be prohibited. Animals may travel to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland only as cargo.

1.5. Compliance with import and export regulations, as well as with animal welfare provisions, is responsibility of the passenger. Furthermore, carrier reserves the right to apply even stricter regulations and to refuse the booking on certain routes if necessary.

1.6. In UAE, animals may be transported and issued only as cargo.

1.7. Additional Restrictions

1.7.1. Puppies and kittens of up to 8 weeks of age are not allowed for transportation due to the possibility of dehydration during the flight.

1.7.2. Kittens under 12 weeks need a veterinary certificate confirming that they can be transported by air.

1.7.3. Animals that have been sedated will not be accepted

1.7.4. Animals intended for laboratory and scientific purposes will not be accepted

1.8. Up-to-date information on country-specific requirements and restrictions on importation of animals may be found in IATA Timatic directories.

1.9. As a precaution, carrier will not accept snub-nosed dogs and cats as checked baggage or as air cargo due to their inability to breathe easily and cool themselves down. The following embargo list of brachycephalic dog breeds is applicable on Cyprus Airways flights:

Health documents
Only animals which are in good health and condition and are fit to travel will be accepted for carriage by Cyprus Airways.

It is necessary to declare animal pregnancy or animals which have given birth within the last 48 hours. Pregnant animals will be accepted only with veterinary certificate declaring fit for travel and
ensuring that there is no risk of birth during the journey.
Documents and Travel Information
Owners must ensure that they hold all necessary documents required for the transportation of their pet relevant to their journey.

1. Governmental regulations of the relevant country may apply regarding the transportation of live animals. Each country may impose additional conditions; therefore, it is mandatory that each passenger visits the respective authorities of the destination country for applicable requirements.

3. Transportation of dogs, cats and ferrets to the UK is only permitted for flights to London Heathrow and only to be sent as cargo. Please check the guidelines for importing pets into the UK.

4. When travelling abroad, pet owners must also present a pet passport.
Documents Checklist
Before flight
  • Pet passport & official documents are ready
  • Necessary veterinary examinations or treatments (e.g. vaccinations, microchipping) have been completed
  • You have checked all restrictions/regulations applying in the destination you are flying to
  • You already have an approved special box/container for your pet/animal
  • Your pet/animal is familiar with the container
  • You have necessary ID tags and a collar
  • You have enough pet snacks and treats

At the airport
  • Present yourself at the check-in counter at least two (2) hours before flight departure
  • Give your pet/animal a long walk at the airport before the process of security control
Pets Transportation FAQ
Can I pack more than one pair of skis in one rack
A group of passengers can carry for free more than one pair of skis and more than one snowboard in one cover. The number of pairs of skis and snowboards cannot exceed the number of passengers in the group, at the same time the cover weight cannot exceed 23kgs. In this case the weight of transported equipment will be summarized. The total outside dimensions may not exceed 203cm (length + width + height).
Can I transport a stroller but child is not travelling?
A stroller without a child under 11 years old is transported in accordance with general terms and conditions.
Is it possible to take a stroller in a cabin?
Bassinet of a folding baby stroller may be taken to the cabin, if its dimensions do not exceed 55х40х20cm. Please note that in order to carry such baby bassinets on board the aircraft, they have to be certified with a special safety label from FAA and JAA or according to the standards of FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards). Umbrella strollers are accepted as checked luggage.
