Baggage Assistance – We're Here to Help

We want your journey to feel smooth from start to finish. If something happens to your baggage, our team is here to guide you through each step. Below you’ll find clear, practical information on what to do and how we support you – whether your bag is delayed, damaged, or missing items.

This page is designed to help you quickly and easily.
For the full legal framework governing carriage, please refer to our Terms and Conditions.

Compensation for lost, delayed, or damaged baggage is governed by the Montreal Convention, subject to the liability limits defined under that Convention and our Terms and Conditions.

If Your Bag Arrives Damaged

If you notice damage to your baggage, please report it to the Lost & Found desk at the airport before leaving the baggage claim area. This allows us to create a Damage Report (DPR) and begin assessing your case immediately.

What to bring

  • The damaged bag
  • Baggage tag(s)
  • Passport or ID
  • Your boarding pass

After leaving the airport

If you were unable to make a report at the airport, you may still contact us within 7 days of receiving your baggage.

Please email bagclaims@cyprusairways.com with:

  • Photos showing the damage
  • The bag’s dimensions
  • Your DPR reference (if available)
  • Any purchase or repair receipts

Providing as much detail as possible helps us evaluate your case quickly.

How We Handle Repairs and Replacements

We always try to repair your baggage first. If repair is not possible, we arrange a replacement based on an independent assessment.

Helpful information includes:

  • Original purchase receipt
  • Repair estimates
  • Exterior and interior photos of the bag

If you do not have receipts, we will still make a reasonable assessment based on available details and international air transport standards.

What Isn’t Covered (Normal Wear & Tear)

Some marks or signs of use occur naturally during transport and are not considered damage. Examples include:

  • Light scratches, dents, or surface marks
  • Minor dirt or soiling
  • Damage from overpacking (e.g., broken zippers)
  • Missing external accessories such as locks or straps
  • General wear on wheels or handles
  • Fragile items transported inside checked baggage
  • Musical instruments or special baggage accepted under limited release

We assess each case individually in line with international regulations and our Conditions of Carriage.

If you have any doubts about whether an issue is covered, feel free to ask – we’re happy to help.

If Your Bag Doesn’t Arrive

If your baggage does not appear on the belt, please visit the Lost & Found desk immediately. Our team will create a file and begin tracing the bag with our airport partners.

You will receive updates by email, SMS, or phone throughout the search process.

Essential Items Reimbursement (When You’re Away From Home)

If your baggage is delayed for more than 24 hours and you are not a resident of the arrival country, we may reimburse reasonable purchases of essential items, such as:

  • Toiletries
  • Underwear
  • Basic clothing

Please keep your receipts.
This support is provided for the first days of your trip until your baggage is returned and is assessed in line with applicable international regulations.

If Your Bag Is Still Missing

After 7 days

Please email bagclaims@cyprusairways.com with:

  • Your file reference number
  • A detailed list of the bag’s contents

The more information you provide, the easier it is for our team to continue the tracing process.

After 21 days

If your baggage remains unlocated after 21 days, it is considered lost under international regulations.
We will then begin the settlement process and provide you with the necessary instructions.

Missing Items (Pilferage)

If you discover that items are missing from your baggage:

  1. Report the issue to us as soon as possible.
  2. If appropriate, inform the local airport authorities.
  3. Ensure the missing items are clearly listed in your Damage/Pilferage Report (DPR).

This allows us to begin an accurate assessment and follow up with all involved parties.

If Your Flight Was Operated by a Partner Airline (Codeshare Flights)

If your ticket shows a Cyprus Airways flight number but the flight was operated by another airline, the operating airline’s baggage rules apply.
This includes baggage allowance, fees, and the handling of delayed, damaged or missing baggage.
Please submit any baggage reports (DPR) or follow‑up requests directly with the operating carrier’s baggage service team.

A Helpful Reminder About Valuables

For your safety and peace of mind, please keep valuable or essential items in your cabin baggage.
These include:

  • Money and jewellery
  • Laptops, tablets, mobile phones
  • Passports and travel documents
  • Medicines and medical devices
  • Irreplaceable or fragile items

If you’re unsure whether something should be carried in the cabin, feel free to contact us before you travel.
